FAQs
What is acupuncture?

It is an ancient form of Chinese medicine which involves inserting fine needles into the skin at specific points around the body to provide a therapeutic effect. No drug is injected, the needles alone stimulate the beneficial effects.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. Acupuncture has been clinically proven to be safe and beneficial. The needles used are sterile and disposed of after single use. Sam has been a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists for over 5 years and adheres to the strict hygiene and practice guidelines set out.

Are there any side effects?

There are a few mild, short-lived side effects that may occur, including:
• Fatigue
• Light headedness
• Localised bruising, swelling, redness

What conditions can be treated?

Acupuncture can be used to treat a vast range of conditions such as sciatica, low back pain, muscle strains, whiplash, headaches, post-operative recovery and other neurological conditions. Acupuncture can also help with pain relief and reducing stress in long term conditions.

Is it painful?

For the vast majority, acupuncture is a comfortable experience. The needles are very fine and thin making them quite painless to insert. Of course, everyone has slightly different experiences but most feel next to nothing on insertion. There may be a dull ache or warmth around the needle site during treatment.
